Need Help with Geforce3 Ti200 AGP Video Card: I'm missing Pixels in Games?

Hi All!:)

I was wondering if You could tell me what is going on with my new 128MB Gainworth Geforce3 Ti200/Ti450 AGP Video Card... For some reason when I play games it misses some of the pixels in the smaller detailed grapics... In Combat Flight Sim 2 the Palm Tree Trunks don't show up... And in Incoming the Hud is missing pixels... It seems that everywhere there is a small line is where I'm having problems...

Below is a link to a shot of my screen in Incoming, can You please look at it and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

http://members.tripod.com/~cyberpreach1/missingpixels.html

By the way, I'm using the latest Nvidia Detonator Drivers and have tried others in both Win98 and Win2k with the same result?

Thanks for Your Help and Time!
Love You!
HumbleFish

P.S. I posted in Technical Support first but I didn't get any bites so I moved it here too... Please Help.

Hey Fish, haven't seen you around in years, how have you been?

Which versions of the Dets are you using? The latest on nV's site or the latest, latest?

Is that the original Incoming you have running there? I think I still have my copy around, I'll try installing it and see if I can reproduce the problem(it may take me a bit to find it).

Hi BenSkywalker,

Pretty good, been out of the loop awhile... And You?

I'm using the very latest and greatest from the Nvidia website (not the bettas), sorry can't tell You the exact number, I'm on a different machine right now.

Yes, it's the original Incoming game; it's one of my favorites... If You could help me get it to work right I would truely appreciate it.

Been doing well here :)

Found and installed the game and I have the same issues demonstrated in your screenshots(I'm running a GF4). Messed around with the driver settings and couldn't get it rectified. Do you know of any way to force 32bit in the game? I'm seeing the problem at every resolution with nearly the exact same gaps in the pixels, almost as if the HUD textures were corrupted(odd).

Edit-

There seems to be an issue with proper handling of ppm textures under DX6 games that have transparancies using the particular drivers I have at least(it is corrupting the HUD texture). If I get a chance I can try to hack the executable and see if I can replace it with a different texture format(gave it a quick shot and screwed something up, game would start to load then crash to the desktop, don't have time at the moment to really dig in to it).

Did this problem recently show up for you? Was it OK with earlier driver revsions or your previous gfx card?

Well, that's good news (thanks for doing that for me), I thought my GeForce3 was wacked.

If you use -screenmode in the games Properties Target (right click on Incoming Game Icon > Properties, and insert -screenmode at the end of where it says target, leaving one space) it will allow You to run in 32bit... I like to set mine up like this: -screenmode -framerate ... That will give You the Screen Mode and Framerate at the same time.

No, before I was using a ASUS V3400 16MB AGP TNT1, and it worked great.

I must have a different build then you, entering the -screenmode switch only gives me 16bit options up to 1024x768 :( I tried -debug also, offers some nice options but no 32bit. As far as using -framerate, I push over 300FPS when I do that and the game is so fast it is unplayable(all the ships are a blur).

Reverting back to one of the older Det builds may clear the problem up for you, I'm not sure. I'll try to go through the executable as soon as I have enough free time to do it right.

Hmmm?... That's weird I got all kinds of 32bit settings, I do however have the retail version... You get over 300FPS with vsync on?... I get over 200FPS my G3 but that's with vsync off... What G4 card do You have?

I have the OEM version, actually I have two of them. One of them came with a RagePro board back in '98 and another a lady gave me because it came with her Compaq and she said if I didn't need it at least I could find someone who did. I get over 300FPS with VSync off, I always run everything with VSync off. My GF4 is a BFG Ti4200 128MB@ 290/560(checked downclocked to default, 250/450 and still have the same issues).

Cool... Nice Lady... I guess You found someone that could use it:)... I run mine with vsync off otherwise the games are just to fast for me... I tried clocking my card down to 175/400 (original Ti200 specs), but still no go... Did You try any of the older drivers?

BenSkywalker or Anyone,

Would You happen to know where I can get access to the older GeForce Drivers?

Sorry for the intrusion :D

You can get the older drivers from here. Note that these are 2000/XP drivers.

Even older drivers can be reached at Guru3D. The 29.42/30.82 is considered by many to be the greatest driver for GF3/4. I only have a GF4MX420 which is running 41.09, no increase in permance btw.

Thanks JZilla,

I'm going to check out those drivers that You mentioned.

No intrusion... Just wondering what happened to BenSkywalker?

Also, would You happen to know what would happen if I was to install the original Geforce1 drivers into a Geforce3?... The reason I ask is because since this is such an old game maybe the original Geforce drivers would make the game work right?...

Well, I tried both the 29.42/30.82 drivers and still the same: the HUD is style corrupted... Anyone else have any ideas.

If your card is covered by warranty, then return it.

About the old drivers, I really don't know. But I guess it won't explode (I hope not).

If you like old games, then maybe the solution would be to stick some old pci video card in the machine. A machine can have two video cards, yes ?

Have you tried with vsync on ?

Thanks JZilla,

I don't think it's the Video Card since BenSkywalker was getting the same problem with his Geforce4.

I was thinking about running two cards, but not sure how to go about it?... Have You ever done it?

Yes, I've tried it with both vsync on and off... Any other ideas?

I did that once. I took an analog KVM switch (available from cnaweb.com for around $13), hooked my monitor to the input on the back of the KVM, then took 2 vga cables and hooked one end to each video card and the other ends to the KVM, under A and B. Some older games don't work right with DX 8 or 9 though, so I use one of my older computers for those games. Good luck!

Thanks SpeedFreak03,

I think that's a little more than I want to do... The game is playable as it is, it's just that the HUD is corrupted and it bugs me.

Anyone else have any ideas how to fix it?
