Need help with finding RAM and PSU

Hey all,

I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I'm feeling overwhelmed from reading countless threads on mobos, ram, psu, etc.

I'm thinking of putting a new rig up and I know I want the following:

? DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D
? AMD64 3000+ Venice

I have already found where to buy those two for cheap, but I don't know what kind of RAM to get or PSU.

I will be overclocking as much as possible. I saw on hotdeals the Corsair Value Select 1GB dual channel DDR400 RAM is a good price, but how stable/good are they for OCing?

For PSU, I know I need like 420+ watts, and one with 24pin, but do I need dual +12V? I'm kind of a newb to the whole DFI/AMD combo stuff.

Cliff's:
1. Will buy DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D
2. Will buy AMD 64 Venice 3000+
3. Will OC as much as possible
4. Need good RAM ($100-120)
5. Need good PSU ($80-100)

Thanks for the help guys!

Corsair VS isn't exactly made for OCing, as per it's "Value" name.

Thanks for the post.

So what RAM do you suggest?

yeah i'd get the ocz vx or the corsair cmx, not the value.

also the tpII 480 is at zzf for 96 and the 430 for 86 i think. dfi likes the 480 but their both pretty strong.

this should show you some ram options but your price is tight. i got the ocz el plat rev 2 but its like 160 a/r right now.

the only thing to remember about the vx is the volts it needs. if they don't bother you, then go for it but be sure you cool it well.

cool thanks for the suggestion.

Do you know how much those will cost? If i remember correctly, those were like $150+ which might be a little out of my price range...

but then again, if I want stable OC, i need some really good RAM which those are definitely.

Another Question, if I want to OC a lot, should I Just buy DDR500 (PC4000) instead of DDR400 (PC3200)?

Sure if you have big $. I prefer to crank up RAM voltage to 3.2V or higher. These modules should be able to hit 250MHz with ease. The best strategy is to use 5:6 memory divider, then you can push the FSB to 300 MHz. I doubt if the 3000 core will be very stable at this speed, though.

No need to spend big $ on DDR500 because the benefit will be small compared to the cost.

vx just indicates that it performs better with more voltage, since you have the dfi board you can use the ocz vx or the mushkin c2 (bh-5 dye) which are the same

Is this RAM good enough for OCing? It's priced pretty well and some of the reviews ppl said they were able to OC stable.

best thing about ocz is the reps hang out everywhere :) plus their great products.

PM andyocz at dfi.street or ryderocz or johnocz here and they'll help you. i had some ocz-3500 that wouldn't oc at all and i found out through them it was a hynix chip which pretty much sux on nf4's and dfi in particular.

andy suggested the 3200 el plat rev 2 and i run it 275 2.5-3-3-7 2.9v

if you can afford it get the rev2, its great stuff.

do you know that high voltages can burn out the internal memory controller in the a64?
more than 3v is only "recomended" for p4...
