I was installing a software for my laptop, after i shut down and restarted there was an error 0189 invalid rfid information configuration area. Try to reset the rfid in the bios but no go. Can't call IBM for motherboard replacement because warranty is over. can anyone help me? I don't want to replace the motherboard. If I have to any suggestion on where to get a cheap one? thanks

The only way you can read/set the RFID is through the IBM
Maintenance Software that is included (on floppy disk)
when the system is purchased.

The Error means that the EEPROM is corrupted, so it is doubtful
that you would be able to read the number(s) away.

You also need to set the UUID number on the system when
changing the system board. So a NEW System Board may be out also.

One thing to try is to remove any Devices attached to the port replicator,
Printer, mouse, and other external devices, Battery pack, Harddrive,
the external diskette drive, RAM, CD-ROM and diskette drive in the Ultrabay,
any PCMCIA Cards.

Let it sit for an hour or so and then replace the RAM and power (not battery)
and try Powering UP.
