Need help with Ep-8kta+

After researching components for about a month (including reading the forums here everyday) I decided to purchase a Duron 700 with an EP-8kta+ to build my first computer. I have a question about the dip switches. There are 6 switches for the V-core, but the legend printed on the mb only give positions for 5 (1,2,3,4,6). What gives? And are the switches labeled "frequency ratio" used to control the multiplier? Also, my CPU came unlocked even though I purchased it retail. Is that possible? I've done the research, just having a tough time actually trying to overclock on an acutal mb. This is my first post, so please be gentle!

If you read the manual, you will find that the 6th SW for Vcore is for auto/manual selection. That's why the first 5 SW's determine Vcore.

Yes, the 5 SW set is the multiplier.

I just bought a Duron 600 two weeks ago. L1 bridges were not cut. It was week 27 (AKBA0027APCW).

I guess all you have to do is to raise multiplier setting one step at a time. Run some video games that came with your video board. If it's stable, turn off the computer. I would disconnect the power cable to the case before doing anything on the motherboard. I stopped at 800 and did not try any higer setting. Good luck.
