Exceptional Circumstances Only
There are, however, a few exceptional circumstances under which you may retract a bid. These are if:
You accidentally enter the wrong bid amount. For instance, you bid $99.50 instead of $9.95.
Note: If this occurs, re-enter the correct bid amount immediately after you retract your bid. If you do not place another bid, the retraction will be in violation of eBay's policy and could result in your suspension.

yeah, you have to fill out a Bid Retraction form. It's kind of hard to find (eBay does this on purpose) but if you look through eBay help and type in "Bid Retraction Form" or "Retracting a Bid" you should find it.

You're really not *supposed* to do it on things you bid a bit too high for, but I've done it a few times. Make up a good excuse, however, when you put your comments in. I usually do something like "Misread Auction" which I'm sure you can do too.

EDIT: of course you could always just say "I typed the wrong number in"

As a seller myself... allow me to stress to you to learn the following tip NOW:

Whenever you think about bidding on an item, read and carefully re-read the ENTIRE auction description (so you don't later realize that they're charging more than you want to pay for shipping, etc...). Bids are final... so ask the seller any questions you may have before placing that bid.
