If i re-author the dvd, i try to add the many and it says something about the menu which i dont understand, after which i could press continue or cancel. Anyone know if i could do this?

Better yet, is there a way to not reauthor, but just take out extra and stuff? THanks

Just uncheck what you dont want as far as audio goes, if its video, like extra features. Under compression, change it to still images. This places a "this feature has been removed" picture in place of whatever you removed

do you want to take out the menu?

I just leave the movie in. Here is what i do.

1. put dvd to be copied in drive
2. click on the reauthor tab
3. double click on the dvd drive
4. drag the movie into the left window (usually Title 1 but can be Title 2, 3, 4 or whatever.... sometimes there are several. Not sure why, but you can preview them to see if its the right one.)
5. click on the tab next to reauthor (i forget the name)
6. uncheck any options you dont want (extra languages, subtitles, etc..)
7. click Backup!
8. select temporary file folder then OK.
9. after compression it will ask for a blank disk. Put it in.
10. it will burn and now you are done :)

BTW.. i think this should be in the Software forum. :)

Try Advanced Search, archived threads, "dvd shrink" for a bunch of threads in Software, including links to a guide on it from MrBass.

if you choose to re-author, you cant use the menus. the whole idea behind reauthoring is to get rid of everything but the movie itself. if you want to keep the menus, just use the 'backup' mode and unclick/still image everything (as others posted above).

I'm curious to know what compression settings most people use for the movie. I usually drill the menus down to sometimes 50% and uncheck the French and or Spanish language tracks to save as much room as possible for the movie. The compression seems backwards to me, I get decent dubs if I keep the movie as cloe to 60% or higher.

as far as i know, you can't reauthor and put menus in at the same time...either you do compression, or you put just the movie on the disc via reauthoring...it won't let you pick and choose what menus, custom compressions, etc.
