NEED HELP WITH DVD PLAYER

I just formatted my uncle's computer which is a hewlett packard pavilion. I put XP on it, and for some reason, the driver for the dvd rom isn't working anymore.. The dvd player just doesn't work. When I do try to play a dvd it says I/O system error. I need help. Any sort of tech support would help. I went to Pioneer and to no avail. Thanks folks!

checked and the problem is a little harder to solve than that for some reason. I'm doing a windows update now, maybe that will help.

What DVD software are you using? Maybe the software is incompatible with windows xp. I know some older versions of Power DVD will give errors if you try to run them in windows xp.
