Just wanted to get some advice from any one who has tried out the two way satelilte system from directv called direcway. Curious about the actual up and down speeds, latency, and reliability.

Thanks!

I do not know much about DirecWay, but I do have experience with DirecPC. DirecPC is their one way satellite internet POS. The speeds were always horrible, too many customers on too few links. Reliability? They dont know the word. Latency? HAHAHA. DUH, the signal goes quite a ways into the sky and back down, both ways. So you are looking at 800+ ms ping times.

1. If you plan on any online gamming=sucks it can't upload any better than a S=hitty modem

2. Big downloads will be severly cut off after a couple hundred megabytes It's called Fair Access Policy or F.A.P. also=Suckage.

3. The only good thing about direcpc is that if you want to grab smaller downloads it is fast I get between 40 and 300 Kb a sec.

If you can get dsl or cable go for that. dsl download rates are slower, but more stable.
Gamming is also better. I can't say about cable, but from what I hear it's great.

I have to wait until the end of November to get dsl then I can tell direcpc to shove their S-hitty service.

<< I know that direcpc sucked but I am talking about direcway here. Anyone got any hands on experience with it? >>

You think Hughes is going to do this one right when they so MESSED up the last one? Its the same damn company. They were hyping this right BEFORE I got fired from tech support for the company that Hughes hired.

So my conclusion is: Buy it. Love it. FAP does not exist. You will not be charged for services you do not get. They will not continue to charge you if you ever decide you do not want to use it. The hardware will arrive and always be in a working condition.

I hope so. I will NEVER knowingly buy a Hughes product. My experience with DirecTV, DirecPC, Hughes management/engineers, and the companies Hughes does business with has given me reason enough to boycott thier products.

I know when I had to uhmmm leave, FAP was DEFFINATELY a part of the 2 way system. And online gaming sucking is not the fault of Hughes but a matter of simple physics.

Here's my situation:

I run a small home office. Do lots of email and update my site from home. I used to play a lot of online games but I really don't have time anymore.

I am so damn far from the phone company I am lucky to connect at 24000 on a dialup. IDSL became available and I had it for about 8 months 144/144. Then northpoint went under and no more IDSL. So I went to Richochet 128/128 wireless service. Not bad but guess what? They are going under effective Wednesday. Now I see that there is a two way satellite system (keeps my phone free). I just want to make sure then damn thing will upload like it should and wil ldownload at atleast 128k if not better. Tehy say it is 400 down and 128 up. I just want some one to coroborate that.
