Need help with Dell LCD

Hi everyone,

I recently got a Dell 19" 1907FP LCD and after playing certain games (especially Diablo LOD) I get a message that says "Digital Input Cannot Display This Video Mode Optimum Resolution 1280 x1024 60Hz".

This happens when I exit the game; sometimes I have to press the input button on the LCD a couple of times in order to get it to work, other times I have to restart my computer.

Are there any ways to solve this problem and will it damage the monitor in the long run?

My computer is a Dell Dimension 4600, 512mb ram, and GeForce FX5200.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Make sure your display settings are set to 1280 x 1024 or lower and 60 Hz.

Are you hooked up via analog or DVI?

That's the exact setting I have 1280 x 1024 60Hz.

It's hooked via the DVI connection.

Strange part is that it works fine just surfing the net and other small tasks.

is there an option in the monitor settings(on the monitor itself) to have it autosense which connection to use?

The monitor is receiving a mode that's out of its frequency range.

Run dxdiag.

Use the Advanced tab to force refresh rate to 60 Hz for all games because apparently that is all your monitor supports (it's what your desktop is running at now).

Hi xtknight,

I ran the dxdiag but I don't see the Advanced Tab anywhere. Is there another way around this?

Under the More Help tab, there's an option to Override DirectDraw's refresh rate. Is this what you are referring to?

I know in my ATI drivers there is a force refresh rate option. Perhaps see if its in the NVidia control panel?

Er, ya, that would be the tab and option I was talking about. Set that to 60 Hz and you probably won't have the problem any more.

Yes, I do see that option in the Nvidia control panel. Is that the same as the option from the dxdiag? I just don't want to mess anything up.

The game's resetting your resolution at exit. Do you have the monitor's driver installed? That might prevent the video card from switching the refresh rate to a level that your monitor cannot support. (just a guess though)

Yep, the monitor's and video card drivers are updated. I am gonna try the refresh rate in a moment and see how it goes.

After trying everything, I am still getting the same problem :(

I had read the troubleshooting guide (which is completely useless) for the monitor and search the net also but haven't found a solution. Any other ideas or suggestion?

Is there any noticeable difference between Analog connection and DVI? I know the image quality is better with DVI, but I might try with Analog to see if it solves the problem.

Anyway, I just like to know if there's a big difference switching from DVI to Analog.
