Need help with deciding what DDR3 memory to purchase.

EDIT: Please look at the newest post that I added - as well as reading this first one.

Hey guys,

I'm building a new Sandy or semi-Ivy Bridge system soon [Unless ASUS have said something incorrectly, it seems there's a chance the original P8P67 Deluxe may support 7-Series CPUs].

I got the P8P67 Deluxe [B3] at such a cheap price, that it was pointless not to go for it. £155 - brand new. It usually floats around near the £200 mark.

I know that the optimal DIMM voltage for SB motherboards is 1.5 Volts.

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/1067...x-4gb-ddr.html

This is only available for a few more hours at this price [£30], (apparently). What is this RAM like?

I am aesthetic-conscious as well. In the UK, the blue or black CAS9 [1600MHz] RipJawsX memory doesn't seem to be available, however, in CAS8, the blue coloured DIMMs seem to be - although the price is vastly higher.

I can get the standard Red RipJawsX DIMMs for £36 - although that would look horrid with a P67 Deluxe (just shortening the name of the Mobo) - in my opinion.

Another set of modules that I have looked into, and seem to be highly available at a fair price, are the Corsair Vengeance modules.

The CAS9 versions. Something puts me off of the design of them, they look a bit like a plastic toy. The Low Profile versions aren't so bad.

But in general, what 1600MHz [1.5Volts is recommended for SB] 2x4GB set of RAM would you recommend me? 😛

Hope someone can come to a conclusion with this soon!

Thanks!

I have never come across geil enhance corsa RAM soI would suggest you stay away from it. Check out the corsair stuff at scan,I use themfor all my components and haven't got a bad thing to say about them.

The blue vengeance or the blue low profile vengeance will go well with your mobo, also the black would work

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I was thinking the blue is the 'exact' same colour. The black would also work - they were the only two colours I had in mind, hence the reason why I was mentioning the blue and black G.Skill modules.

Also, do the larger heat-spreaders suffice to any improvement, or are the low profile heat-spreaders just as good? As the looks are cleaner with the low profile versions.

The white version looks good though! Although I am unsure as to whether it'd go well, and they're rated at 1.35Volts, which is under the recommended, and am also unsure if it is still okay or not - I have heard that the SB platform is very picky about the DIMM voltages.

IMO whatever 1600 9-9-9 RAM you like that has a lifetime guarantee.

There isn't much difference for the Intel platforms these days, and most of the RAM companies are pretty similar.

I do, however, STRONGLY prefer RAM with low profile heatspreaders, as they are so much more flexible. Mushkin heatsinks are about as tall as I ever use. I think Gksill are about the same height. Most coolers allow clearance for those. The non-low prifile Corsair Vengeance RAM spreaders are too tall IMO, and I wouldn't buy them just because of the height.

Aside from the heatspreaders, I wouldn't worry about too much else. Just make sure it's reasonably easy to return for exchange if you need to. All the MFRs have some small % of issues, and I've had to exchange modules from several reputable memory brands over the years. Realize that it happens from time to time and that's why all the big memory assemblers have lifetime guarantees. I don't hold an issue against a company when I need to exchange a stick or two of RAM. It's how the industry is designed, and the companies I've dealt with on that end have all had pretty painless exchange policies.

Hmmh... 🙂

Well, the one advantage to Corsair is their really good customer service.

My 650D arrived with a broken front-panel for the I/O bay on the bezel.
All they needed was my address, and they sent a new front bezel straight away by courier, no questions asked.
Fabulous.

The low profile Vengeance modules look okay.
But what do you think of those GeiL modules? [I need to decide if I'm going to get those, really soon. If not, I can wait to purchase another brand - but 1/3 off of those modules just for today is good].

I only use a BeQuiet! Dark Rock Advanced heatsink - so heat-spreader sizes on the DIMMs isn't too much of a worry for me. 😛

I have the Geil kit, 4x4GB but in an AMD system. The heat spreaders are very tall. The ram is guaranteed to run at 1700mhz also by the way in case you want to do a little overclocking. The main thing I was impressed with was being able to tick the 1T command rate and getting it to work without any problems and @ 1.5V.

I read on their website with regards to the promised 1700MHz. Great to know.
However, due to the great customer service, I think I might just head for the Corsair Vengeance Low Profile modules. Unless you can think of anything else! 😛

The modules that I think I've been most interested in, are the Kingston: KHX1600C9D3P1K2/8G

2x 4GB DIMMs, 1.5Volts 1600MHz + great aesthetics! [and a lifetime warranty; although I'm unsure if that counts in the UK].

They're a little more pricier than the £40-ish Corsair Vengeance modules, coming in at about £55. Worth it?

You're about the only person I know who cares about the aesthetics when buying ram. So you tell us, is the aesthetics worth the extra? Only you can answer that really since it's your money.

Hmmh...
Well, what RAM in terms of quality would you recommend?
If I'm going for something cheaper - would you recommend those GeiL modules? They've got a garunteed OC minimum to 1700MHz @ 1.5V

Or the Vengeance modules.

I suppose I am a bit of an aesthetics lover, but oh well.
