Short version - My sister borrowed a Toshiba laptop, which later fell :( . I haven't seen it yet, but she describes the damage as "a cracked screen, with stuff oozing out" She says it still kind of works, just that the screen is dark and the edges are hard to see.
My first question is whether the liquid that's oozing out is toxic, or presents any health hazard, risk of shock, etc. ? My second question is whether continued use could possibly damage any other components ? Thanks for any input,

I wouldn't lick the screen, but I don't think wiping it off with a cloth will hurt anything. Shock hazard? Probably not.

Short answer - maybe yes, maybe no. I'd back up my data off it right away. Unless the laptop is nearly new, the cost of repair will likely be waaaayyyyy more than the thing is worth.

You might want to check E-Bay for a used or "broken" model of the same ilk - if it has a good LCD screen, you can swap the parts. Factory or OEM repair is horribly expensive, probably close to $500.
