Need help with Cruise Planning

It a present me and my brothers are considering getting our parents since they have not been on any vacation in years. So we have come to the conclusion of rather getting each other anything, to put all of our money toward them.

Im thinking a 4-7 day cruise to mexico, and hopefully under 1g for (2 tickets).

Are there any times of the year NOT to go, or maybe another suggestion?

We're in Florida (Central East Coast) and mexico would require a trip to either Tampa or Miami.

you can save them a lot of money by going when school is IN session, when school is not in session is when the rates are most expensive..if they don't care then go then, plus they wouldn't have to deal with kids running around

If it's their first cruise then Carnival will work well. I personally have that after your first cruise you should go on something higher end, Carnival is like the Dodge Neon or Toyota Corolla of cruises and honestly it isn't anything to be excited about after the "new wow" factor wares(sp?) off. Don't get me wrong though, it's still a great experience!

If it's not their first, expect to pay a bit more for the Mercedes/BMW of cruise liners

If you want an inside cabin during hurricane season on the oldest ship Carnival has you are in luck

Save up and get them a better room or don't do it at all. We spent $1200pp on a suite on Holland America after having an inside stateroom and then a mini-suite. It's worth it and it would be hard to go back. At the same time, your parents will know you skimped if you get them a cheap cruise. The ship will be old and it will show. You could do a nice ship with a nice line for 7 days for around $1400ish.
