Hi, I need some assistance with a computer build, not sure which to get...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
- WoW dual screened with either movie or counterstrike source. High FPS in WoW, 30+.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
- Mid-range: $US 800-1300

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
- Australia

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
- Intel CPU
- Western Digital HD
- ASUS/Gigabyte MOBO
- Graphics card: Not XFX (poor support). nVidia for sure.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
- Fresh tower, everything new.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
- I can't decide between duo core and i7! i7 is pricy, is it worth the x2 cost?

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
- Default, I'm a noob!

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
- Soon, next couple weeks.

Thanks.

What size screens? (Specifically, what resolution will you use for gaming?)

WoW really likes lots of CPU power & plenty of RAM, GPU is not quite as important as it is in most games. (When you get into those heavily populated cities and/or large raids your fps drops because the CPU has to crunch *lots* of data.)

General recommendations:

Intel Q8300/Q9400 on a P45 motherboard
or
AMD X3 720/X4 920 on a 790FX/790GX motherboard

4GB/8GB DDR2-1066

WD6400AAKS (Caviar Blue) or WD6401AALS (Caviar Black)

GTS 250 (1GB model) or GTX 260

Overkill. As others have said, you don't need i7 for WoW. An E8400 (high-end dual core) or any Core 2 Quad (even the Q8200) will be fine for years. Even though the i7 920 isn't insanely expensive compared to certain high-end C2Qs, the motherboards that support it are.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P ($245) or Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3 ($200)
E8400 ($260) or Q9400 ($361)

PhII 720BE ($256) or PhII 940BE ($377)
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4 ($190)

In Ozzie-Land the i7 is insanely expensive. It looks as if any performance component has a 40%+ premium - even hard drives.

And you might want to look at the 9800GTX - it seems to be at the best price point. And some of the cases are outrageously priced - the *iCute* line looked very reasonable (especially if you could pop that badge off the front :D)
