Need help with cable modem

I have a Toshiba PCX2200 cable modem, and untill a few days ago it worked fine. Now it seems that if I try to use a ethernet cable from the modem to my pc or hub the modem is not being seen. All I get is the little icon in the taskmanager that says a network cable is unplugged. Right now I am using that same modem to get online, but I have to do it by USB.

Is there some seeting that I should check to see if it is my modem that is bad, or somthing that has to do with my network cards? I have tried to use the ethernet plug that is part of my motherboard as well, but I get the same message as I do when I use my regular Netgear card, so I am not thinking that both are broke. Also, when I plug the hub into the network card, the activity light blinks, but when I plug in the modem the lights on the card do not do anything.

Any ideas as to what I should try to do next?

What sort of cable are you using? If you happen to have a crossover cable rather than a straight-through, it might not work. Try plugging the modem into the uplink port on the hub, or a regular port if you've been trying the uplink.

I am using a standard cable, and I have tried to run it many diffrent ways. Direct from the modem to the pc (using two diffrent network cards) and also to the hubs internet in, and to the uplink and normal slot. I even tried it on my second pc to see if it was somthing that may have set up wrong on my pc and that did not work either.

I had it all working for the last three months with no problem, it just seems that all of the sudden it will only work if I use a USB cable to do it from the modem.
