Need help with Beep codes on socket370

I have a FCPGA PIII-800 on a Gigabyte GA-6VX7-4X motherboard with 256MB PC-100. The computer works fine... sometimes. Sometimes the thing will jiust beep and attempt to read from the floppy constantly. It gives 1 short beep with a 3-4 sec pause and short beep again, over and over. I have tried different memory, video, removed all add-on cards (NIC) and still the same result. I cannot get into BIOS as it doesn't make it that far. When I disconnect the floppy ribbon cable, (naturally I power down the machine, disconnect it, and then restart) I get 5-8 short beeps. I have been all over the Gigabyte site and haven't found any info. Any suggestions?

Beeps sound like Video to me? Have you tried a card of a different model/brand? Maybe there is a compatibility ussue with the video card and Mobo.

If different brands of all cards, memory etc don't work... Then the mobo is probably dead. Or processor...

You may want to try Clearing the BIOS.
The Beep code you mention is a System failure code for Award Bios.

Make sure the POWER is disconnected and let it sit for a few minutes
when clearing.

Update: I have tried 3 diferent chip video cards (nVidia Riva, ATI Rage and Matrox G-200) I even tried a PCI version Trident (Jaton Video 67P) with the same result. I have the BIOS battery removed, jumper on clear, and the whole thing unplugged. Odd thing is sometimes the thing will boot fine and has run fine over the last couple of months (probably more like a year and a half.) Considering what I paid (FREE!) I'm not too concerned. Thanks for the suggestions jbritt & LiLith Tech. Will update when I have more info.
