Okay, I bought this...

ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

and

Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I54670K

Obviously didn't work together because I'm an idiot. Anyway, they have to be returned for replacement only. As for damage control I bought an AMD FX-8120 3.1ghz chip at a local store and a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard at the same place, as I was putting it together then and didn't want to wait.

With any luck, newegg will allow multiple returned items to be replaced by a single item, another AMD chip. So, anyway, in the interest of making this the biggest bang for my buck, and since I am obviously retarded at the moment, what is the best AMD chip I can fit in that specific GIGABYTE motherboard that I have? I was thinking the FX-9350 4.1ghz, but I'm not really confident on what chip fits which motherboard right now...

EDIT- Or perhaps this one...

AMD FX-9590 4.7GHz Socket AM3+ Eight-Core Desktop Processor - Black Edition

The Mobo says it supports AM3+ as far as I see.

Well, according to Gigabyte, the latest/ fastest chip supported by that board is this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819113284

Make sure you are running the F9 BIOS if you want to go that way.

Now, that is not a 100% guarantee that the CPUs you are looking at are not supported. I might suggest you send an email to Gigabyte about this.

Ah okay, that's good news. I'll have to get with GB to be sure. The only reason I'm worried is something I saw about 220W chips being too much for some motherboards to handle. It's not exactly a low-end MB, but just because it has decent sli/crossfire support doesn't mean the chipset is going to hold out. Thanks for the info...

EDIT- Ah, nevermind. Just went to their website and it lists the 220W 9590 as being compatible with 3 of their boards, and mine is one of them. I could be anal and call them anyway, who knows, hah.

I had always thought that "return for replacement", meant SAME item. If you know differently, I'd love to hear about it.
