I am trying ot record a DVD off of my DVD player onto my harddrive. It won't capture the video at all. It just keeps on repeating the first 3 seconds over and over again. What can I do to fix this problem. any websites? any tips? thanks. could use the help.

If you're just ripping the DVD from disc to drive, it really doesn't matter too much what your video card is. In this case, it's probably a software issue. Are you using ATI software to try and do this?

I'd recommend SmartRipper for this function. It will rip files from a DVD Movie to your hard drive. You can then either play it directly w/ PowerDVD (or similar player), or convert it to MPEG, AVI, etc....

You are experiencing Macrovision, and you don't want to "capture" DVD's anyway...you want to rip DVD's.

thank you, any more tips on why it isn't capturing? just curious, so if it's a hardware or software issue I can figure it out.

Its because of the macrovision(anti-piracy copy protection) in the DVD, it wont record for the same reason hooking your DVD player to a VCR won't work. Rumor has it that it can be defeated by using software hacks,

do you know where I can get these software hacks?

That might get this thread locked. Do a Google search or check out the AIW forum. I don't have a link for the forum, but Google should get you there too.
