Basically I have to build a circuit which is going to wait a certain amount of time, about 5 secs, then give a small pulse. In the grand scheme of things it will go to turning a robot that is going through a "maze". It should be pretty simple in contruction, but I am stumped at the moment on one thing. I am using a simple 555 (actually 556) timer. The problem I am having is that I can't get it to give a relatively short pulse. The problem I am having is overhow to make a single short pulse. Since the 555, when triggered, will put out +5, then once done with the time, 0. I need to turn the 0 into a short single pulse. At first I didn't think I needed a short pulse and had planned on using a NAND gate, but now I realized I needed a short pulse and I am having problems thinking a way to make a short pulse.

It's amazing what a little thought can do. I do this all the time. I have a problem, then I write it out, and the problem fixes itself. :) You should do this more often. It's one of those little things all us humans share in common.

Yeah, it was more like I wrote it down, and started just putting stuff in and found something online, and got it to work.
