I have a self built AMD system that has been idle for six months. Yesterday, I plugged it in and nothing happened, even the fans did not start.

I bought and installed a new powersupply, Antec Earthwatts 650 watts, to replace the 500 watt version of the same model. Turned it on and nothing happened including the fans did not start.

Does anyone have an idea what I should do next? If the motherboard was dead wouldn't the fans come on anyway?

Thanks in advance

Have you been overclocking it or messing with the voltages? Any storms in your area recently?

The system is not overclocked. It has not been plugged in since Oct of last year. It was working, booting up, etc, then.

I moved and did not get around to starting it until now.

Pull everyhting not needed to POST. pull all expansion cards, except video. disconnect all drives and try again.
If no go, pull the memory.
Try putting the CMOS jumper to the other position and try again. If you aren't getting any signs of power, wither you have a fried mobo or it's possible the power switch is busted.

pull the cable from the case power switch from the motherboard and try shorting the pins with a screw driver (make sure you don't touch the metal of the screw driver)

If you have another power cable (say from the monitor) try that.

Verify that the wall outlet actually has power. By pass power strip if you have one.

Make sure the PSU hasn't accidentally been switched from 120 to 230v in the back.
