My husband and I are looking for a QUIET vacation spot after Christmas. I want to go somewhere warm near the water - someplace like Kiawah Island, SC, or St. George Island, FLA. Anybody been to a nice secluded place recently that you would recommend? Your input is much appreciated.

I recommend Costa Rica. It is a safe, friendly place that has no army of any kind and is, of course, tropical.

I'll remember that next time I'm planning on invading and over-throwing a government.

St John has small, secluded resorts (such as the Rockefeller one) and you can always take a ferry to St Thomas if you get bored.

I can think of some snowed in cabins back in the mountains, but that doesn't sound like what you are looking for.

You will need to get as far south as you can as it can be relatively cold at that time of the year.Like Coral Gables Fla.or below. Most all the spots are quite along the gulf coast as well.Destin Fla is nice.So is Mijami

I've heard that Death Valley is nice around that time of the year. Warm, not many people, and only a little ways from the ocean. Cheap too!! :)

Really? How lucky are you! May I ask - is it business or pleasure that brings you down there? When we were younger that was my family's favorite vacation spot. All together I think we took around 13 or 14 trips down there from 1984-2000. It has been really interesting to watch the island change with the onset of the developers. Great place though!!

As for budget, we're flexible, but don't want to spend too much this trip. We just got married in August and weren't able to get away because of job/school conflicts. We are planning our honeymoon for next August in Hawaii. We are just looking for a place to get away for about 5 days.

So, someplace that won't require a lot of hours getting there (ie Maui) for this trip.

Thanks for your suggestions so far!

How about California. Ive been to this place called the Lawrence Welk resort which is beuitful. Near the coast, has a huge beautiful golf course on it. Plus a huge pond for fishing with huge bass

pleasure.. it's a company owned house... however, a deal has been made to sell it and it will be gone as of December 1st this year.. so we're trying to use it as much as we can before it's gone.. it really is a nice house, sad to see it go... :(
