Need help with a new PSU

Here's my situation. I'm building a new rig, but I'm having issues with the vid card 260GTX going to black screen when I load. I'm thinking it's PSU related. I have an Ultra600 now and by the Antec power calc I should need at least 560W...but this is older and I'm guessing it's just not all that efficient. I'd like to replace it, but I need some help. Budget isn't an issue.

I want to be able to do SLI some day.

I think I need something that's strong around 850-1000W.

It needs to be quiet!

It needs to FIT in my Antec P180 case (so it can't be all that long).

And I would like to have relatively flat cables, so I can route them in the case.

Any suggestions?

I looked at the corsair 1000W, but it's too big for my case.

any help is appreciated.

Any specific budget?
...and whats the length PSU the p180 can fit up to?

also update your sig with current parts or post it.

I'm not done with the build, so I didn't want to update my sig until i have everything complete. Frankly I'm thinking of trading in the 260GTX for an AMD card that is smaller. The 260 is crazy long.

As for the size, the bay is roughly 8" deep. My current PSU is about 5" long and I've seen posts that indicate that the corsair is too long without removing the fan, which I don't want to have to do.

Basically I'm looking for a good PSU that isn't all that long.

Budget isn't an issue.

Coolermaster Real Power Pro 850W
BFG ES-800
OCZ EliteXstream 800W

All under $200, all shorter than the HX1000, all have sleaved cables.

Xigamatek 850 as well.

The only real issue I see with all these PSU's is from the sounds of things he wants a PSU with the Flex-Force style cables; but only Ultra and some Corsair PSU's (not sure about HX1000; but the VX & TX series are just sleeved) have those kinds of cables. Otherwise their just sleeve wrapped.

any thoughts on the Corsair 750? it's smaller than most, which is one of my issues. A lot of the 800+W PSUs seem to be in the 180mm range which is a bit too big.

My dream would be to find a quiet 800+W PSU with a small form factor (15cm to 16cm) that has modular cables....that's reliable...

am I asking too much?

Well I didn't suggest a Corsair 750 cause you wanted it in the 850W+ range. The only thing is it's not modular but it is quiet. The thing is you can find a PSU that meets 180mm and be modular, but you can't say if it is quiet as that is strictly subjective.

Anyway can you post the spec's of the rig your building? So we can get an idea if you really need an 850W+ PSU.

Rig Specs:

Antec P180 Case (Own)
E8400 (Own)
4 x 2GB DDR2 corsair dominator 1066 (Own) With cooling fans
6 x 120mm fans in case (own)
7 x 500GB SATA II (7200 rpm) (Own)
DVD-RW (Own)
CD-RW (Own)
Rheobus controller (own)
Vendetta 2 CPU Cooler (own, not installed yet, using stock)
Ultra 600 PSU (Own)
Lots of USB (6-8) not all on at the same time (2-3 in use)
ASUS p5Q-e Motherboard (Own)
eVGA 260 GTX OC (Own, but thinking of swapping for a 4870) Not installed
eVGA 7800GTX (own, installed until video decision is made).

I'm currently deciding whether to get rid of the 260. It's too long for the case and I'm just not that sure about it.

I'll be gaming and I might eventually go to Crossfire (if i go to the 4870).

thanks

Well considering the Asus P5Q-E doesn't support SLI only crossfire and from the sounds of it your not happy with the GTX260 anyway, I'm just going to assume you will choose crossfired 4870's. Now with than in mind I would see 850W being the absolute maximum you will need as the 4870's will be the most power hungry of everything you plan on choosing. Now with that in mind I would imagine a 750W PSU would be enough as long as it has enough amps on the 12V rail/rails of course I haven't had much sleep the passed few days so my math could be wrong(someone want to double check this; I don't want to give him/her bad advice.).

Anyway in my opinion an Corsair TX750 or Xigamtek NRP-MC751 would be good choices in the 750W range. The corsair however isn't modular but I'm pretty sure the Xigmatek is. Another option with be the Silverstone DA800 which is modular too.
