bought a used HP laserjet 4 model 4050 tn.

i connected it to my router and was getting an IP conflict with my main PC. So, in my router settings, I created a static IP for it's MAC address.

Now, I can ping it and when I print out the configuration page (through the printer's panel) I see the new IP address.

However, I can't seem to add it using WinXP's add printer. i don't know what the server name should be.

any ideas on how to add it?

thanks,
robert.

I can't test this as I don't have a network printer, but how about \\192.168.ip.address under the "connect to this printer"

i tried that.. but it told me that it can't connect - either printer name was typed incorrectly or it has lost connection to the server - but i can still ping it.

ok.. figured it out finally..

even though it's a network printer, it doesn't have a print server.. you have to set it up as a local printer, but configure a TCP/IP port for it using it's IP address.

thanks for the lead, though.
