Need help with a math problem

For all r not equal to +2 or -2,

r2 - 5r +6 / r2 - 4 = ?

a. r - 3 / r + 2
b. r - 2 / r + 2
c. r - 2 / r + 3
d. r + 3 / r + 2
e. r + 3 / r + 2


How do you do this, I was reading over some practice questions for a compass test I am getting ready to take, and I knew how to do almost all of them, but I don't seem to recall how this one is solved.

r^2-5r+6 can be factored to (r-3)(r-2)
r^2-4 can be factored to (r-2)(r-2)

(r-3)(r-2)/(r-2)(r+2)

= (r-3)/(r+2)

edit: oh haha my mistake, factored wrong. Fixed.

I don't know if all COMPASS tests are the same, but if yours is similar to the one that I took at my school, and you can't figure that practice question out, then you're practically assured to be placed in a remedial class.

DAng, i read those first to posts, and I like, okay thats what I did, and it didn't work. But the problem has shown itself, I was also factoring the r^2-4 as (r-2)(r-2). Ah its the stupid mistakes that'll bite ya in the end.

Well that was the only one I had a problem with, and it wasn't cause I didn't know how to do it, I was just making a stupid mistake. For what I am doing, only one math class is required, beginning algebra 2 is what the schedule says, so as long as I get placed at least into that, then I will be happy. I have been out of highschool for like 5 years now, so some of what I know is a bit rusty, but I got all the questions right(with the ecpection of the above mentioned question)up to the college algebra questions, those seem unfamiliar, so hopefully thats good enough to get me into the class I need.

I have a college level english that will transfer, so I won't have to take that portion of the test, so as long as I don't get stuck in a very basic math class, then I will be fine. Thanks for the help
