Need help with a classic game (Total Annihilation)

I just re-loaded this game, and it works great... loaded the latest 3.1 patch.. however, can't get it to work multiplayer... tried with gamespy and the game just launches to a blank screen and eventually reports it was not able to connect to the lobby. Any ideas?
