It's been a while since I did an upgrade for gaming, but I used to be up on all the latest. I took a break, bought MW3 and now I need a hand with a new gpu. I have a 5 year old or so pc with an amd 9500 quad core. Unfortunately I don't know the model of my motherboard offhand. It has an nvidia 8500GT in it now which doesn't run MW3. I got an XFX 6750 HD. Installed it, and realized my psu didn't have the new 6pin plug. So, I just finished installing a new PSU (corsair gaming series 700watt) with the 6 pin plug. Installed new card.... no video. I put the old card back in, and everything is working fine. Is there a newer pci express standard? I think my motherboard has the original pciexpress slots. Thanks in advance for any help and/or info.

Get back to us with the motherboard model.

My guess is you might be one of the very few people that has trouble with pci-e 1.0 and newer cards.

I'm gonna give you the same advice I gave other members back when the 5xxx series cards came out.

Update your bios
update your motherbaords chipset drivers

see if the card works in safe mode.

if that does not work, see if you can use the new card in another computer to make sure its not a dead card.

I am up and running on the new card now. I installed the drivers with the old card in, and did the bios change mentioned above. Thank you for starting me on the troubleshooting path that led to me poking around in the bios. I appreciate your help.

Hey cool man. glad to hear it.

Now install MSI afterburner and overclock that card.

I had my 5750 to 900 core with no voltage. (there is no options to controll voltage with 5750's),mabe your 6750 does?

In any case at 870/1220 memory it will = 6770 performance.
I would give it a try.

I used to overclock all of my stuff lol, back when Return to Castle Wolfenstein was the hot new game :p See what you've done, it isn't enough to upgrade the gpu, psu, now I have to overclock the card too haha... downloading the utility as we speak :/ Before long I'll have the latest mobo cpu combo that overclocks well... perhaps a giant case with 7 fans :p

I went and played mw3 for a while, haven't tried it yet. ETA: Successful boot and mundane windows tasks working fine with the core clock bumped from 700 to 750 :) How high can I go before I need to start worrying it locking up? And it does have an option to unlock the core voltage control, but I figure I'll go conservative with no voltage boost at first. ETA#2: Just bumped it up to 765 and ran a few games of domination without any issues.
