Need help with 3G

Just got an iphone 4 with 3 G, but when I try to use anything (Maps, Email, etc) it says I need to connect to Wifi. Isn't this the point of 3G? I never had to do this on the Droid with my 3G network. Didn't switch carriers or anything, just phones.

This sounds odd..Like its not seeing you have a data connection. Does it show an E/3G next to your carrier at the top?

You could try flipping airplane mode off/on.

Worst case run the battery down to 0 and then plug it in. It's a hard reboot. One time on my old 3GS I couldn't connect to 3G or two days until I did this

Settings -> General -> Network -> Enable 3G and Cellular Data should be on. '3G' should appear next to your carrier name.

It does show 3G at the top, I will try a hard reboot as well, and I double checked the settings, Cellular data is on but I saw no setting for Enable 3G ...

Yes, also tried flipping airplane mode on/off but didn't notice a difference

I am on the same plan I have been for 10 years, didn't change that at all. I am actually still having the same problem too since I was going to try a hard reboot and I still cant wear the dang battery out on the thing LOL so as of yet, no fix

If there is an Apple store in your area, take it to them, and walk out with a replacement.

Not possible, at least not on AT&T (I'm not familiar enough with Verizon's service.) The iPhone has its own separate data plan.

No, same plan. I had an unlimited data plan on my droid and simply upgraded to the iPhone without altering my plan at all. Thanks Emulex I will check that out!
