NEED HELP : winxp user account transfer

hi guys:

umm, is there anyway i can transfer the account or anything like that, the user account is there, but i cant startup windows, has some kinda error and i dont think its fixable. is there anyway to install another windows (xp), on the same hard drive under another folder say c:\winxp instead .

then get that newly installed windows to gain access to the account

You'll need to do that parallel installation and then take Ownership of the old profile to salvage the contents of it. After taking Ownership, burn it to CD or DVD or back it up some other way, then start clean.

In that picture, I've right-clicked the C:\Documents and Settings\mechBgon folder, chosen Security and hit the Advanced button. If I were salvaging it, I'd put a checkmark in the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box and give Ownership to an account or group from my new Windows installation, probably Administrators.

If you have WinXP Home Edition, you need to start in Safe Mode to get at the Security tab and stuff. If you have WinXP Professional, go to Folder Options and disable Simple File Sharing.

When you go about your new installation, if you don't have a hardware firewall, then here are some tips to keep worms out during setup. Hope that helps 🙂
