When I turn on my computer everything is fine, except it says this:

"Cannot find a device that may be needed to run Windows or a
Windows application.

The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but
the device file no longer exists.

If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated
application using its uninstall or setup program.

If you still want to use that application associated with this device file,
try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

vnetbios.vxd
Press a key to continue"

If I just hit a key, it will run Windows fine. I had just built this thing and am Using Windows 98. Some of my programs like my DVD program, Heavy Gear 2, and my Sound program that came w/my Santa Cruz don't work. Do you have any idea what this is all about?

Try uninstalling, reinstalling all of the programs that don't work to see if any of them have this file and can restore it. It sounds like you have something trying to start up when you turn your computer on but it can't actually start. My guess is that it is associated with your sound card. You might want to uninstall any apps related to the sound card and then reinstall them to see if the problem is resolved.

Yeah, I think it is my sound card because that isn't working either. I have a turtle beach Santa Cruz. When I try to run my Santa Cruz Control Panel it says "Unable to Detect Card. Would you like to run Diagnostic". I click yes and all 4 test failed. I am removing all software that came with it.

My cable that came with the card has an analog connector on one end and a "sony" connector on the other. it says to install the analog cable on the CD-ROM, ok, I did. It says the Sony connector should go in the black CD-in connector on the card. I found it but the black CD-in connector seems to been made for analog connection. Do you think this could be causing the problem?

That is one of the Windows networking files. Just find it on the CD, expand it if needed, and put it somewhere - \windows\system32 probably.

Edit: Or better yet, delete your Windows networking settings and redo them, it should recopy the networking files from the CD including your missing one.

Bozo's got it right.

Delete all your network settings (like netbeui, tcp/ip, ipx/spx, etc.) and reinstall them. Windows will then ask you to insert your cd and it will reinstall all the stuff automatically.
