Ok... so i'm trying to create a file server in winXP. Here is what i want to do.

-I want it setup so everyone on my network can view the file, but i DO NOT WANT them to have any write privileges ( i know how to do this )

-I want one computer on the network to have FULL ACCESS. I have a laptop that I primarily use and I this computer to have write privileges ( i don't know how to do this )

So basically i want to be able to control my fileserver using only one other computer, and i want everyone else on the network to be able to ONLY view the files

I've searched google but i'm confused on how to setup permissions Guest, Users, and Admin. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Create the user account that you use to logon to the laptop with, to your winxp "server". Give that user account full control to the file & share permissions (or just make it an administrative account on the "server" since it is you logging in).

Can you give me some more detail on HOW I actually set the permissions for user? Do i select users and just plug in my user name? Thanks

Boomerang: I found that link too. However, they don't really explain what a User, Guest, etc are

thanks guys
