Guys I'm wanting to format and start from a clean slate..I'm switching from an Iwill xp333 to the Asus P4B266C

Anyhow When it gets to the screen where it shows the pci devices,hd and ect..my hd is not listed..I'm booting from a boot disk so I can format the drive and reinstall xp on a clean slate since changing mobo's and chipsets.
The maxtor hd is showing up in the bios and even in the next set of drives on the bootup but not at the end when it shows the pci devices..Hmmm

When I go to format C it say's :format not supported on drive C..Then if I type in fdisk..it says no fixed disks present??It's prolly something simple I'm sure..Anyone got any ideas??

Thanks!!

What OS is currently on the system before the format/reinstall?
What OS are you installing?

It's possible that the OS currently installed has a NTFS file system while the OS that you're trying to install only sees FAT32 file structures. The NTFS file structure is more advanced, and OS's that run on the FAT32 aren't "smart" enough to read the NTFS.

Try formatting with the current OS's install disk, if you can. If given the choice, choose to format with FAT32 file system if you're planning on installing Windows95, Windows98, or WindowsME. They only use FAT32 file structure and cannot read NTFS.

Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP (I believe) give you the option to use either NTFS or FAT32 and can read either file structure.

Oh, just as an added bonus, I might be way off. 🙂 But I have that same CPU and mobo. I had Win2k installed before, and now I have WinXP installed after the new hardware change.

Crap!!Your not gonna believe this..It was the HD..My frickin new maxtor 40 gig died..Anyhow I hooked another hd up..it seen it..and now I'm in the middle of formatting. At least the Maxtor is under warranty :disgust:
Unless the jumpers weren't set correctly on the Maxtor...thanks to Thug 😀
I gotta check that out after I finish formatting this Seagate.

Yeah, saying installing WinXP on a drive that already had WinXP basically throws out any of my suggestions. 😛

Good luck with the rig. Oh, and good luck hitting ~2.6GHz like I did 😀

Yeah..Hopefully it's just a jumper setting for my sake.

The chip runs 2.5 @ 1.625 w/ the stock Intel POS cooler on it 😀
Wait until I get a decent hs/fan 😉

Decent!? That HS/fan IS decent! :Q I can't get mine higher than just below 2.6 for longer than a few minutes. I dunno. Oh well. I don't want to burn it out too quickly...
