Need help! URGENT!!!

I urgently need help!

I have DSL and have 3 computers on my LAN to share the connection. We can share the connection, but can't see each other in Network Neighborhood. So I was trying to figure out why and followed some instruction on a site to give the 3 PC's each a unique IP, 192.168.0.? for each of them. After doing so on the second PC (actually a Laptop), it says it has a conflict with a piece of hardware also has an IP of 192.168.0.2 and the interface is disabled. So I thought, OK, I'll just change it back to what it was before and forget about it. But now, I can't get back in windows at all. It just asks me for login name and password, which I put in, then it just stops, doesn't load the desktop besides playing the starting music. Can't get back in so I can't change the settings back! I tried disconnecting the NIC too, but still can't get back in.

Anyone, please help me! Because this is not my computer. I need to get it working! Please please please. I'm very desparate!

I booted into safe mode and changed the IP address back to what they were. But I still can't get into windows. After I log in, only the wallpaper loads, nothing else.

Any more suggetion. I'm very desparate! Thanks.

ok, I also tried to find the backup registry file cuz I think something in the registry might have been altered in the process. But to my surprise there's no backup copy of the registry.
Please please help!

how about taking out the ethernet card from that labtop, it won't ask for the network login, but for the regular password, and perhaps you will be able to get in. Then, i would either totally delete that tcp/ip protocol and reinstall the tcp/ip after reboot.

just a thought

Do a search for "pwl" be sure and click on show all files. This is where the passwords are stored.
Bleep

I can locate the password file, but I actually know the password so it doesn't really matter. I can login, but just nothing shows up on the desktop. I even tried creating a new user profile in safe mode and tried to login as that new user, but the same thing happen. Nothing except the wallpaper loads.

boot up into safe mode, go to your Network Control Panel and remove every single thing from there. Restart your computer and let Windows redetect everything again. If it still hangs at password screen, let it sit there for about 5-10 minutes. After that time and after Windows detected that there is no network present, everything should be fine. Good luck,
