Need Help............UPGRADE!!!!!!

I am planning to upgrade my procesor & mobo...
My current setup is a Pentium D paired with MSI Mobo...

Should I go with Core 2 Duo E6300 or Athlon 64 X2 3800+????

I want it to be Quad Core ready....Because I will then ugrade my processor to Quad Core by the mid of next year...

Does the performance between Conroe & X2 noticeable or not???

How about when I upgrade next year, does the upcoming K8L be better than Kentsfield????
Basing on my ugrade to Quad Core next year, which should I choose????
By the way, I will used the same mobo (from Conroe to Kentsfiled or K8 to K8L)....

There is NO WAY TO KNOW! There could be so many changes, you may have to buy an entirely new motherboard for quad core regardless of what the maufacturer says the system supports.

Plus nobody knows what the K8L will do and there's only very very early reports from Intel's chip.

Kentsfield engineering samples have been in the wild for at least two months now. Imagine two Core 2 Duos in one slot and you've got a pretty good idea of what they'll be like.

For most of us, four cores will be overkill anyway, so I have no idea why you're interested in Kentsfield of a possible future desktop quad-core K8L. Smart users, even power users, will go for high clock speeds on their dual-core procs rather than quad cores unless quad cores get really cheap.

Just go with the E6300 and be happy.
