I tried to apply for a wells fargo college credit card...and got denied. She couldn't tell me why but told me to look at my credit report, so i am looking at it on selectidtheftprotection.com and it says i have been sent to collections 2 times on Experian, once on Transunion. But it doesn't let me view what i was taken to collections for. Do i have to call experian/transunion to find out? Does anyone else use that website? Only reason i'm using it is because it is free through wellsfargo. Should I be looking on a different sight?

edit: this is my first time ever using anything that required getting my credit checked...never had a credit card or cell phone in my name...

get your full free credit report from all 3 agencies from

http://annualcreditreport.com

it explains how to dispute items

basically go through all 3 reports and dispute all the items that are wrong. then after about 1-2 months, check it again and you shouldn't have any errors on your reports

If you've never had a credit card or a loan or a mortgage...they might have denied you because of your lack of credit.

@Fobot....there is no way for me to tell what the infractions are for...it just says they are there

edit: fuck, ok i finally figured this shit out. experian says the 2 things against me were from medical bills 2yrs ago that i already paid off and are closed but transunion wont let me view unless i pay them. wtf

just dispute the medical things, they have to remove it once you dispute it unless they can prove it is correct, if you paid the bill , it can't be correct, so it'll be removed

99.999% of wrong stuff will get removed just by you disputing it

Even if you paid debts that went to collections, they'll stay on your report for some time. They may be marked as paid, but they're not going away instantly. It takes time.

You are in a state where they have to provide you with your report for free. You may have to call, or write them to get it. I think you now know the cause, but I would call all 3 of the credit bureaus, to make sure they all have the same info. It may be 7 years from the time you paid off your medical bills, before it is removed from your history.

You can call and dispute it, but if it's true, and your medical account was sent to a collections agency, you are screwed.

Transunion wanted me to provide them with a utility bill in my name...and cell phone bills don't count. I don't pay utility bills, so I can't prove my identity. Its so retarded.

You should write them & explain it all to them then. As the letter will be from the address they have on file for you, you should be good. How old were you when you got that medical bill? Were you a minor?

Will they take a vehicle registration?

I would put in a dispute then. It can't hurt especially if you were still in school.
