Haha wow, you guys are great! With regards to taking the computer out of the kids room. That's exactly what I told their mother, however the excuse is that it is needed to do "homework".

Anyways I'm going to check out some of the suggestions you all have posted, Once again thanks for all the information :)

Homework cannot be done in the kitchen? Or living room?

Obviously not :p Kids need privacy for their "homework" ;)

Take the computer out of the kid's room?

Winner!

Kaboing!!!
My 14 year old daughter hasn't had the use of her computer for two months because she can't stay off ICQ after 10:00pm.
She was just about done with her time when I saw ICQ to go on her sister's computer with her friends list up.
It took 12 seconds to get her little sister to roll on her.
Strangely enough, the 14 year old asked that night when her grounding from the computer was over and I told her it just started because she failed to honor the grounding.
This whole thing falls under the "privelage" rule.

Thanks again guys, I'm going to tell the parents to get net nanny for this kid. I'm going to be afraid to look at this kids IE history and downloaded files and show the findings to his parents.

Also has anyone tinkered with the IE content advisor settings? A friend suggested to slide language, nudity, sex settings up, but to leave the violence setting alone :) It seems doubtful that this would help very much.

Setup recording software and bust him... then play the recording back to him in front of his friends...

So this "personality disorder" must come in handy - gets the parents off the hook on all kinds of stuff. I'm sorry to speak ill of your friends, but that so sounds like a cop-out.

you can do homework in public areas, he probably won't look at naughty things as much in public areas

the parent doesn't care and/or doesn't run the household if the parent is unwilling to remove the computer from the bedroom

i second that.

Perfect solution.

QFT!

How about his punishment is NO COMPUTER IN HIS ROOM until he turns 14.

Fixed

I'm not a parent yet, but honestly I don't see the benefit of weeding sex development out of your child's life.

You should talk to them and tell them looking at porn is natural and fine so long as it's not excessive and it's at appropriate times. Better than saying "sex am bad, don't do anything sexual until you're 18"

I was asked by a family friend to help setup some sort of parental control on their childs machine. Apparently this kid is 11 yrs old and likes to lock himself in his room and surf for pr0n and his mother knows about it but doesn't know what to do (From what I was told the kid has a weird personality disorder). Anyway, I do not have any experience in any sort of parental blocking programs, I looked on google and have no idea where to begin.

If there's any AT parents out there who can suggest any type of software (preferrably free) to help monitor and block web activity that has questionable content, your input is much needed and appreciated. Thanks!

how is it a "weird personality disorder" for an 11 year old boy to want to look at tits?

I'm not really sure of the specifics, but from what I was told is that when he comes back from school he does his "surfing" & "homework". But he has throws temper tantrums up the wazoo if his parents confront him etc. I'm probably going to be on this kids #1 list of bestest friends. I've never met him but I be messing with his pr0n stash while he's at school. I agree it should be the parents responsibility. I would've just yanked the broadband connection and tell the kid to goto the library to do homework.

Yeah or teach his parents to read the history, then let him know that everything will be logged, and add the double threat that he will have to explain anything he has on there book report style. The awkwardness of explaining something like "white chicks getting black balled" to your parents will keep that problem under control.

Like I mentioned I don't know the specifics, I'm only helping out one of my mothers friends. All I know is the kid throws fits of rage and tantrums and was told that he has a personality disorder. God knows what he'll do when he finds out he can't look at pr0n.

LOL - book reports...Now THAT's the kind of creative parenting I'd pay to see. :D

Umm. how about taking the freaking computer out of the stupid kids bedroom... DUmbass parents. I tell ya....

The computer should be in an open area that gets lots of traffic so you can monitor everything they are doing.

i am wondering if the reason is that the parents are using the computer as a nanny while they do their own thing..a computer in the kitchen or living room would cut into that...

Don't look at what? Pictures of unicorns? Reuters articles? Sports scores? You're going to have to be a bit more specific as I am definitely not following you.

He's 12...what do ya expect? I think he means he doesn't surf The Inquirer...

Simple fixes:

1. Remove computer from bedroom.
2. Unplug computer from intarweb.
3. Take away the monitor, leave the computer.
4. Duct Tape. Chair. Closet. Any questions?

I had to smother myself from making the "personality disorder comes in HANDY" joke...

Geez, how hard is it to remove a computer from a kids bedroom? When I was a kid, I had a TV, when I was bad, I lost the TV. When I proved I was good, I got the TV back.

This is parenting 101 people!!
