I have an old Winbook XL laptop with a dead internal CD-ROM, and I need to reload Windows. I have an external CD-ROM (IOMagic Magicspin 24x) but I cannot figure out how to get it to be recognized from a boot floppy.

I have the Magicspin device driver, but when trying to use the boot floppy I get "Card Services Release 2.1 not found" error. The suggested fix is "reinstall or reconfigure your system for your PCMCIA sockets".

And now I have no clue what to do. I can't find anything on the Winbook site about this and I have no experience with PCMCIA stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

For DOS, you need to load PCMCIA Card Services Device Drivers before you can load the device drivers for PCMCIA items.

In otherwords, you need drivers for the PCMCIA slots themselves before your CDROM.

SystemSoft, the makers of the original PCMCIA Card Services driver, has withdrawn downloads of its software across the web and wants to sell it to you for $70.

PM me for more info. ;)
