My dad is to start video editing so I'm going to change my Barton 2500@2800 for a P4C 2600HT. My question is: If I want to overclock, is the multiplier unlocked, or do I have to raise FSB? What speeds can I achieve w/o overcloking pc3200 ram? Which is a nice cooling (similar to silent boost), or do I stick with stock one?

Thanks.

the multiplier will be locked. so you have to do it with the FSB.
Just make sure you lock the PCI and AGP busses

A lot of people use the stock HSF, but I recommend the Zalman 7000 series.

you can try overclocking the ram with the cpu.. but if it can't take it. just set the Ram to a 4:5 ratio..

250 FSB with 200 Ram is pretty sweet.. not crazy.. but crazy fast

youw ill have to do fsb overclocking as it is locked. I would get teh 2.6C personally. It is very very close to price and the extra multiplier will make it oc a little better. Newegg has the two chips with the 2.6C only a couple bucks more.

I'm one of those whose CPU can't do 200Mhz FSB :(

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll go with 2600C. About the Mobo I'm thinking about Asus p4p 800 dlx. How good it is? what about sound quality? is it comparable to soundstorm from my a7n8x dlx 2.0? Also, I don't like zalman 7000 design for the mod I want to do... Maybe I'll go with SLK-800. How good is coolermaster jet 4 HS if I want to change the stock blower with a tt x-blower?

If you are going to by a new MB you should take the advice above and get the P4C800 it is a little more but the PAT is worth it.

I read in anandtech that asus had managed to make PAT work in P4P MoBo's, and that they outperform P4C ones. And what about sound quality? is it comporable to soundstorm?

Well,

sound quality is not on Soundstorm levels. But rather good, since I'm now using this Realtek ALC650 for 1,5 years (but makes heavier load on the CPU).

But you could compare that Soundstorm is somewhere on same level as Audigy 2.

It should be 5:4 ratio on the FSB:RAM side, not 4:5...

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to go with Asus P4P 800 deluxe. What cooling do you suggest? Is Zalman 7000 worth, or would it be better to use a SWIFTECH MCX4000B? I'd add a tt x blower to the swiftech.
