Need help setting up PS3 to stream media

I'm having some trouble setting up my PS3 as a media server.

Specifically, I can't get my PC to see the PS3 in WMP11 and thus, can't "allow" the PS3 to access the shared media.

I have the PS3 hardwired and have enabled the media server in the network settings.

In WMP11 I clicked the share media, but there's nothing listed.

I've rebooted everything.

For the most part, I think I have all the settings correct, but it just won't detect somewhere.

Any ideas what would be the problem?

Thanks.

I've narrowed it down to my PC having the issues as my PS3 shows up ok on my laptop.

Argh, this is frustrating.

The PS3 can't act as the server--it can only act as the receiver. What you did by "enabling it" was allow it to communicate with other DLNA servers.

mlm is correct.

Since your PS3 sees your laptop, and not your desktop, I'm betting that it's a firewall issue on your desktop. Do you have one installed? If so, turn it off, and then see if your PS3 will see the desktop.

Yeah, I realized it was my PC.

Did some googling and finally found that it was a corrupted DRM folder that I had to delete. Apparently it was a very common problem.

All is well now. Thanks.

I don't want to hijack your thread there.

I've been wondering. If I have a movie or a TV show on my laptop, can I see it via on my TV (via PS3)? Was that what you asked for?

I'm pretty sure it will if you use Tversity. I've never seen an XviD file though, so I don't know for sure.

Yes. It's more picky about XviD than (properly encoded) DivX though.
