I have a laptop that is running Xp Pro, which gets used on our home nework and at local Wi-Fi hotspots. I have probably 10 or so shares to the local network that I want to be password protected when I go out, the shares are still accessible but not to everyone.

I'm on a workgroup, not a domain. i've been playing around with this for hours and cant seem to get it working correctly. I want it to be so that when a network user tries to access a share on the laptop, they are prompted for a username and password.

Is there any way to do this without creating new limited user accounts, but rather create ONE username and password for everyone at home to use to access the shares on that computer? I ask because I dont want to have to create 5 new users on the laptop just to grant them all user-specific access.

Sorry if this sounds ignorant, my brain always feels slightly mushy after extended sessions with windows networking. but any help at all would be awesome. thanks!
