Need help setting up my network.

Hello everyone.

I just bought a laptop and want to set-up a home network so that I can share/transfer files from my big rig to the portable one. Currently, I am running XP Pro on my stationary rig and XP Home on the laptop. I havea cable modem connection that feeds into a Netgear RP114 router.

I tried using the Network wizard built into XP to no avail. Seems like I cannot get the network set-up so both machines can "see" eachother. Is this possible using the router I have? And if so, what steps must be done to configure this network properly?

make sure that both computers are in the same workgroup and taht they are both named something different you should be able to find that in the system properties. and see if you can ping the other local machine.
