Ok, just installed win2k server on a p233mmx. Just for the hell of it, I thought I'd set up an ftp site.I used the IIS manager to set up the server. I set the ftp server ip to the ip of the server computer. now heres where it gets tricky, I have cable. I have a dlink router, which allows you to redirect all calls to port 21 (or anyother port) to a specific ip on the network. I set this to redirect to the server machines ip. However, whenever I try and access the ftp site using the router address, I can log in to the server, but not view any files. Any ideas on what is causing this?? I'm sure its a setting I missed somewhere, I'm new to win2k. However, when I try to login over the lan using the actual server ip, I can log in and view files. Sorry if this sounds like I'm rambling, its hard to explain the way I have this setup.
basically, I can log in using BOTH the router ip address, and the actual server machine ip (only when over the network). But when I log in using the router ip address(over the internet), I don't have access to the files. When I login using the lan ip, it works perfectly.
Hope some of you win2k guru's can help me
