hi guys.
i need help on setting up a mailserver for my LAN setup ( which doesn't have a domain and not connected to the Internet )

the server is a linux box that runs RedHat 7 and Samba for file/printer sharing..
i've tried configuring sendmail but since my LAN doesn't have a domain it would not work..

does anybody know how to do this. or is there any other MTA software that i could use which runs without DNS.

or i have another option which is build a windows box as the LAN mailserver ....
-what software,OS,apps would u suggest ?

please help :)

and i also need a instant messenger that runs on W2K ( kinda like winpopup on W9X systems )

thanks..

What do you expect your email address to be????? user@ipaddress????

Pay the money to get a domain and setup your domain for the email accounts.

You need some form of domain to have central mail, you could setup sendmail on each machine and jsut use username@machine but this also requires DNS to be working.

dyndns.org and other such sites will let you use subdomains. Reverse dns wont work, but that should be ok...

Or, if this is for internal use, setup BIND.

there is a way without having to buy a domain...

i've read it on a linux docs page...

but i forgot where and i've been trying to search the site... without any results i guess that it's down or it doesn't exist anymore..
i've done this once on a redhat 6.2 server but i really forgot how ...

isn't there any linux gurus that could help me out
