Need help selecting mp3 player.

I'm thinking about getting an mp3 player for my upcoming ski trip/vacation and long distance bikeride. I dont want an mp3/cd player because i want something without moveable parts so it will be small and not skip. I dont know much about memory for these thigns other than MMC seems to be kinda expensive compared to SM and CF. Here's what i'm looking at now if anyone has any imput or other suggestions:

Nex II - This uses CF and looks like it can take the most memory, therfore holding the most music.

Samsung Yepp- This one is pretty cheap (at least its marked down a lot at amazon) and comes with a wired remote and is expandable by at least 64 mb.

Nomad IIc- A lot of reviewers seem to like this one but it doesnt come with a remote or headphones it seems like. This one is also expandable by 128mb I know. I've also read numerous complaints about the maximum volume (i plan on mowing the lawn with this on if its possible and have no idea how the max volume on this compares to others).

If anyone has any insight on any of these player or knows any good deals on them, please leave some feedback, thanks
oh- and one last thing, does anyone know if the amazon zshops are reputable, they seem to have some good prices on some things when i was browsing them.

what does viewed as a drive mean, the nex II says that too, does that mean the computer thinks of it as like a 100 mb drive when its connected via usb?

yes

check out this one
i was gonna get the Nex II but it has only one slot for memory
the MPIO has internal memory and an extra slot for smart media plus it has a FM tuner!!!

MPIO-SV

If you've got the money, iPod's the way to go. There's rumors of a PC version being released, or you could just use some of the software out there to use it on a pc. If you don't like that, Bantam has some nice players.

thanks for the suggestions. Ipod is too expensive for what i'm looking for. I'd like to keep this under 200 dollars total (thats including headphones, remote if necessary, and a 128 mb card).

My riovolt sp100 just arrived on monday and I'm very pleased with it, but that doesn't help you much. I've heard a lot of good things about the Nomad IIc, not too expensive and lots seem to like it. I can't give u a personal recommendation though, all my friends who are hardcore music fans use MD Players

have you looked at the Archos Jukebox? the make a 6gb version that last for 5 hours with two(?) AA batteries.. i saw one on amazon.com for 239.. i plan on getting one once i recieved my 200 dollar gift certificate!

i'm leaning towards the nomad II if i can find one in stock anywhere as it seems people are generally happy with this unit. I'm still worried about the max volume complaint some people mentioned, can any owners verify whether or not this is a problem?

D-Link DMP-110. 🙂

Got it for 40 bucks at fry's. 30 dollar rebate. 🙂

I'm gonna return mine though. If you want, you can buy it off me for 40 + tax + 3.90 shipping. I'll send you the receipt so you can get the rebate.

Got no problem here with my Nomad II, ordered and received it about a month ago. The volume goes from 1 to 25, I usually have it at about 17 which is damn loud enough. And I have the typical twenty-year-old desensitized ears. 🙂

I've also flashed my unit to be able to take 128MB SmartMedia cards and use the WMA format - WMA at 64kbps has a fantastic quality/size ratio. Basically, very happy with my Nomad II. But I made sure it came with the included backphones and remote, things that I believe are not usually included with the Nomad IIc.

I've tried out the Yepp and the Nike players and thought they had FM-quality sound coming out of them. I'd think about picking up the Nex II if I were you, CompactFlash usage sells it for me.

0sulley, if you had the choice would you go for the Nex II or the Nomad II right now assuming the prices are just about the same. I'm not sure about the memory thing but both are damn hard to find in stock right now, especially since i need it by next friday. I've found a few nomad II sellers on ebay, but thats about it.

If you've got/planning on getting a digital camera that uses CompactFlash, you definitely should get a Nex II because you'll be able to swap media as needed and save money that way.

If you want to play it safe or simply buy the slickest MP3 player around, pick up a Nomad II - not the IIc! It's touted as the #1 2nd-gen MP3 player available, though I think they've discontinued production lately. The II has a FM tuner built in, which although a bit weak (because of the absence of an external antenna), whereas the IIc does not.

i'm using my Cassiopeia that i just got for $100 as my MP3 player, since it uses CF i can swap with my camera 🙂

just wondering, what Cassiopeia model is it? I have an E115 that I was trying to sell, so I want to know if it is only worth $100 now. I decided to keep it because I couldn't get much money for it and I can still use it.

Screw the Nomad IIc, get the Nomad II, you will be alot more statisfied. I have one and radio does make a difference when you want more music.

Nomad II MG is the model you want.

I wish I got that instead of the olympus DM-1 buy hey, I got a good deal on it.

What is the difference between the Nomad II regular and the Nomad II MG, i see they look different but the features appear to be the same.

Rundown of the Creative Nomad units here:

I tend to think the Nomad II MG sux0rs because, well, where's the room for the ID3 tag on the LCD? Not worth the extra thinness if you ask me. However, being able to speed up or slow down voice/FM recordings is a pretty neat feature if you want to get through an audio book at 1.5x speed. 🙂 Generally though. it just isn't as versatile as the Nomad II and IIc.
