I just got a digital camcorder and I am looking for a firewire card. I was looking though Newegg and there were several of them. Do the brands of the firewire make a difference in the performance? I saw that they had

Koutech FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 CONTROLLER CARD - RETAIL BOX 3+1(2 independent external ports + 1 internal/external shared port) with cable & Video Editing Software. For PCI Slot.

for $25+shipping while there are cards that are more expensive then this. Would i get good performance with this card or should i get another one?

Thanks

brand doesnt really matter, only what chipset it uses. I would go with one with a texas instruments chipset, as they have never failed me. had a problem with a via chipset route so definitely stay away from via. as long as its OHCI compliant, which most are, you really shouldnt have a problem.

Yes, just make sure you get one with a TI chipset. Compgeeks ususally has some cheap ones.

Does the card i mentioned above use the TI chipset? I can't tell through the pictures and newegg doesn't say it in the description.
