I have an AMD 3500+ and want to remove the heatsink. The motherboard
won't run (it's new) and I have to return it.

Please advise as to how to go about this. I'm wondering about the black arm (the
plastic one on the one side). Does it just lift up? Or do I have to take a screwdriver
to the metal clips first?

just flip the black arm over and pop one side off the clip, then the other

I found the Venice HSF to be a real bear to get on/off compared to the Winnie HSF

Thank you for the reply. So, I just flip the arm in the opposite direction? Pull it up? Just afraid I'll break
it - the arm seems a little flimsy - it did take a lot of force to get the arm down - do I need that much force
to pull it up?

The CPU did not come out with the heatsink.

To prevent that, I twisted the heatsink just a little as
I was pulling it off - so that the two would separate with
a little horizontal stress. I think that is the trick.

I will have to remove the thermal paste with rubbing
alchohol and reapply it.

Make sure you use high % alcohol and a lint free cloth, and when you reinstall the CPU, clean it off again in case any dust got on it.
