EDIT: I bought a cpu.. We will see if it works. Input would still be great.

Ok Ive done my research, on the cpu i need to upgrade to.

This is the one I have now.

And this is the one I want to upgrade to.

My problem is the socket. Intel says the socket on my cpu is this Micro-FCPGA, and the same for the one I want to get.

I google Micro-FCPGA and I get this. Now my CPU looks nothing like that yet, Intel says that is what my cpu is.

Its different.

My laptop Dell 600m. Also this is the cpu I am wanting. Will it work..... NO.

So am I confused? Or am I just an idiot(don't answer).

Thanks.

Tyler

Both the processor you want and in ebay link are SL7EP, so they are the same.

Not sure if your Dell 600m can provide the 1.34V-1.276V Core Voltage though, since your current processor (SL86L) is only 1.26V (.016V difference).

I've heard that the fastest processor you can upgrade to is a Pentium Mobile 765, which has a 2.1 Ghz clock speed, 2MB of L2 cache, and 400Mhz FSB.

Um...

You have a Dothan and you're trying to replace it with a Yonah. This is a no-no!

They both have 478-pins but (as you found out) the placement of one pin is different.

Heh!

Technically these are Socket 479 flip-chips, NOT Socket 478, even though they only have 478 pins... :D

EDIT

BTW, don't feel like an idiot - this confuses everybody (including the guy above).

To help alleviate all this nonsense, Intel (in their infinite wisdom) has now come up with a Socket M.

Socket M is not pin-compatible with the mobile Socket 479 or the desktop Socket 478, even though it still has 478 pins...

LoL!

Once again... Apples/Oranges!!!

Thanks Vin.

Well shit.... I bought it but now I have no use for it. Oh well I will have to find another laptop that will use it.
