Need help quick!! Please friends computer cant work wth 2 gpu's but works w/ mine and his 2 gpu's work in my old p2 233

It started after i had tried to install a new sound card in his computer. That doesnt work but isnt the main problem.

The main problem is that after i went home (was working fine b4 i left) he shut down the computer. when he went to turn it back on all the monitor would display was PLEASE CHECK SIGNAL CABLE so we took out his new graphics card and put in his old one still wouldnt work so we took his monitor up to his bro's room and the monitor displayed OUT OF RANGE which i figure means it works.

So what could be the problem???

O.S. XP Pro

PLEASE HELP!!! WHAT IS WRONG? IS THE AGP SLOT SHOT? AND HOW COULD I FIGURE IT OUT!!

P.S. the computer boots and loads as far as i can tell fine no beeps and you can here it start to acess the hd after initial boot
 
his bros is a new p4 with a 19" monitor and it was already in windows so it didnt go through the bios and the refresh and all of that would already be set to high for the monitor correct?
 
You should be able to shut his bros computer down, plug in the older monitor and start it up. Windows will detect the new monitor and if the refresh is set too high for it, it should default to a lower resolution automatically. At any rate, you don't need to let it boot clear into Windows. If it displays the POST screen when you turn it on you know the monitor is good and you can shut the system down. All you're trying to do right now is find out if your friend's monitor is working or not.
 
ok we figured this much out....

his monitor is not working.
his 2 graphics cards do not work...
IN HIS COMPUTER but they work in my old p2 233

the sound card i got for his doesnt work...
IN HIS COMPUTER but it works in my old p2 233!!!

the only graphics card that works in his computer is my old stb velocity 128 😕
and all three of the aformentioned graphics cards work in my computer flawlessly?

please help me figure out why the sound card and his graphics card wont work in his but work in mine.

 
his computer works fine with my graphics in it it posts and goes into windows but we are confused on the no work with his 2 graphics cards that work perfectly in mine!!! so we know that they arent defunct or nutiin
 
ok i am getting anoyed that i cant get any reasponses? i already cleared cmos and reset it to defaults and all of the added hardware is out.. No beeping no nothing with his 2 grapphics cards and everything works with mine

by nothing i mean the computer boots up and goes into windows(im guessing by the sound) and you could literally do everything but there is no display......

IS THE PROBLEM THAT ITS A COMPAQ?
