Need help putting strings on my guitar...

I have a Peavey electric guitar and I need to put a new set of strings on it. I tried this once before but couldn't get them to go right. I read something about the first 3 strings are wrapped one way and the second 3 strings are wrapped another, but I'm not too clear. Thanks.

The worst part is when you get it strung and tuned and then realize you strung it wrong. This has happened the last two times I restrung.... I finally said screw it and paid the 12 bucks to have it done at a shop i go to.... They laughed at me but at least I save my time and frustration....

It depends on the model of your guitar. I'm pretty sure that guitars with the fender strat style headstock have their strings all wound one way, while guitars with the split peg Les Paul style headstocks have their strings wound in opposite directions. I could show you easily if I could draw it out, but it's too hard to do it with ASCII characters. Basically just wind them the way they are wound now. Make a note of whether each peg is turned CW or CCW for tightening and then do it that way. Make sure you leave enough slack on the strings when you start tightening that they'll grip when you're finished. But don't leave so much that you have 25 turns of wire on each peg. It's just a practice thing.

Just sight down past the peg to the nut and see which side of the peg the string should fall on. It should be obvious.
