In our quest to determine precisely which political bias each network exhibits, we're completely missing out on the fact they're no longer independent.
Some points of concern: a few media conglomerates own the networks. The media always want "access" so they're often afraid to "disappoint" the current administration by digging too deep, pressing a story, etc. Heads of these conglomerates and even Talking Heads break bread with our political officials. They also wine and dine with the heads of other corporations. It's been called an Elite Cocktail Club by some.
And last but not least, I must mention the drive for ratings. This often results in more salacious coverage and "least common denominator" stories are chosen over those more important to the well-being of our country.
I'm not saying CNN, Fox, CNBC, etc. are all untrustworthy. I am saying the points above mean you can't rely on them for an accurate report of any given issue.
So is CNN liberal-biased? Who cares! CNN gives Hillary Rosen, the RIAA's spokeswoman, tons of airtime. Hillary can weave her web of pro-RIAA agenda without any contrary opinion on that channel. That's definitely not balanced and it's not right.
Anyway, food for thought (or the dog).
