Need Help.. Promised to Make Dinner For Girlfriend...

So basically I have the house to myself for the next couple of days, (22 year old college student, lives with parents) and my girlfriend doesn't think I can cook, actually she knows I can't cook.. But, she somehow talked her way into me making her dinner tonight. I can nuke a mean mac and cheese, but thats about it (one of the reasons for moving home, good cook in residence). Thus I need to come up with something, like an overall meal that will at least prove her wrong about my culinary abilities..

Its got to be somewhat cheap, (together 3+ years, cheap is fine at this point, already got into the cookie jar) and realitively goof proof... I have looked through this site for recipes and the multitude of recipes online.. but still have no ideas what to do..

Any ideas? Recipes? Thoughts? Wicked Insights?

Yeah that would work, pasta is pretty fail safe.. if you have the chicken recipe close by, without having to search for it, I could give it a shot.. Any good wine suggestions?

Admit your lack of skills. Make basic spaghetti with sausages.

Stuff you'll need:
1 glass bottle of spaghetti sauce (Not the "extra meaty" kind)
1 box of spaghetti noodles (the long kind) - alternatively, angel hair, which is thinner long noodles.
6-ish italian sausages. These are frozen in the meat section, and usually come in trays like ground beef. Spicy or mild, your choice.

Step 1: Cook the sausages (You cook them just like you cook hot dogs on the stove) - water in pan, heat, roll 'em till they're done all the way through. If you don't know if they're done, feel free to cut them to check, you're going to do that later anyway. When they're done, cut into slices about a finger wide. You should end up with a bunch of O shaped pieces of sausage. Set them aside.
Step 2: Cook the spaghetti (someone else can tell you how, or you can read the box)
Step 3: While spaghetti is cooking, dump the sauce into a pot, heat it, stirring damn near constantly.
Step 4: Sauce should be done first. Dump the sausages into it, stir, set aside.
Step 5: Noodles should be done. Drain them (that means "dump out all the water") - if at all possible, transfer into another container so your clutz ass won't let them sit against the metal too long and burn
Step 6: Add sauce to noodles. Mix.
Step 7: Serve on plates.

That should be enough for a family of 6 - I hope you like leftovers, but that's just how much you get in a box. By also admitting your lack of skills, you get one of two benefits:

Either: She thinks you're just being modest (if she likes it) and will bang your brains out for it. Or, if she doesn't like it, she'll lub you anyways for being up front about it.

And a small serving variation. At step 6, keep the sauce and noodles seperate - put a little bit of sauce on each plate (a little secret to keep the nekkid noodles from slipping all over the place while you carry it), add the nekkid noodles, and then put the sauce on top.

She knows you can't cook but at least trying shows you are willing to put some effort into your relationship. This of course leads to other quality activities.

Pasta is a good choice, failing to make pasta is not easy.

I had totally over looked pasta, I am thinking spaghetti with french bread, cesar salad (one of those salad in a bag deals) and some wine.

I'll get some pics, if everything works out ;) but I might have to post them off-site..

I used to eat it as a kid, but find it way too greasy and expensive for what it is... Papa Johns is #1 in my book..

1. miso soup (paste available at asian market, 1tbsp per 1 cup water, add diced tofu)
2. mixed salad with japanese ginger dressing (available at foodlion)

gravy (red sauce) and meatballs are extremely easy to make. just takes time.

tools needed:
crock pot
wooden spoon

gravy:
2 cans of crushed tomatos (redpack if available)
1 cooking onion
1 whole bulb of garlic
italian spices (oregano, bay leaves, basil)
sugar to taste

put crushed tomatoes in crock pot
chop up an onion, and a buncha cloves of garlic add to the crock pot
stir all of this together mix in a little bit of sugar and add italian spices...
boil most of the water out to thicken it up takes like 2 hours

meatballs:
1/3 pound ground beef
1/3 pound ground veal
1/3 pound ground pork
(note: sometimes u can find a "Meatloaf pack" which is all three in one)
1 bulb of garlic
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/4 - 1/2 pound. grated cheese (the more the better :)) (i prefer locadella, but u can use romano or whatever)
italian spices as mentioned before
1 whole egg

chop up the garlic
put meat into a big bowl
add whole egg
add garlic
add bread crumbs
add grated cheese
mix up with your hands very thoroughly
either use an iced cream scooper, or your hands and create meatballs

broil (its a function on ur stove, go check if u dont believe me) the meatballs on a cookie sheet with tinfoil lining it like 1-2 inches apart (5-7 mins one side, then flip them and another 5-7 mins ) and then put them in the gravy while its cooking for at least 30-45 mins.

pick up a pound of pasta, 1 lb is good for two people , barilla ziti is a good cheap choice, or u can really impress her by picking up some celentano cavatelli (prounounced GA-VA-DEEL) which is extremely delicious or ravioli which will be in the freezer section of ur local supermarket follow directions, mix and serve.

voila ur an italian chef.

edit: added a few things

As a man who doesn't know how to cook, making dinner isn't hard. Make sure you include wine, it is the cheapest way to class up any meal. As far as easy, cheap, and delicious go (as well as healthy) look online for some good recipies for ginger chicken. Cheapest great meal ever. Add a salad and wine and you're done.

See my above dumbass-proof spaghetti. I've gotten laid many times for that recepie. ONCE BY AN ITALIAN CHICK! Italian chicks know their pasta.
With sauce (gravy) from a jar? She knew nothing.

Really easy if she's into Asian food.

Ingredients:
Noodles (just ordinary noodles)
Wok sauce (preferably the red, spicy one)
Asian Chili sauce (extra spicy)
Arachnid-oil (or just normal oil, if you can't find it. Do NOT (NOT!) use olive oil!!!) <--- Very important.

Take a large pan, fill it with hot water, add noodles, bring to boil. Let boil for ~2 minutes.
Put oil in pan. Stir-fry noodles lightly, ~30 seconds. Add wok sauce (take 5 tablespoons, discard them into a bowl or something, put in rest of the bottle ;)), stir-fry lightly again (~1 minute). Add chili sauce, stir-fry again. Put on plate. Use left over wok sauce to decorate the plate.

Easy as hell, and tasty, too.

Make a 16oz ribeye, side of rice, and red, green, yellow peppers.

Cut the fat out of the ribeye, but some worceshire sauce on both sides, add your typical dry seasonings, rub it in.

Butter an 8" pan, set the stove to 3 or 4.

When pan is hot, put steak in, cover pan, wait 3 minutes.

Flip and cook likewise for another 3 minutes. remove steak, and stirfry the peppers in the steak juices.

Rice - thats easy. 1 cup dry is probably enough for the both of you, although i like rice, so i eat 2 cups dry by myself.

Rinse the rice 3 times in a small pot. Fill with water so the water thickness above rice is the length of your index finger to your first knucle (roughly an inch).

Stove on high, cap the pot. When water starts to boil and make the cap bounce around, lift the cap. When water is gone, turn off stove, stir in 1/4" butter put cap on wait 5 minutes, then serve.

If the steak comes out medium-rare or medium and she likes steak, and likes it like that, likes peppers, you are guaranteed secks.

Salad and pasta are both reallly easy. Salad you get a head of lettuce, cut it up/rip off the pieces so they aren't big, drain the water out, dress it and mix it up. Pasta you put water in a pot, boil it, then put the pasta in. Sauce you put in another pot, (start it first), put the heat on and stir it. Stir it a decent amount and don't put the flame on high at all.

Dude.

Siriuously.

Grill Something. Grilling is...manly, much more so than...making pasta?

Get some nice ribeye steaks, marinate in some Teriyaki Marinade* for 24 hours, grill until medium rare-medium well, basically so its still pink inside.

Good Luck,
~new

Teriyaki Marinade*
1 1/4 cups pineapple juice
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon liquid smoke
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon oil
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
