Need help please with the power connectors!!

I had a p3-500 and now, im bulding a athlon xp 2500 (barton core), so I used the same power supply that was in my p3, but I realized that the motherboard had 2 powers conector from the power supply...the tipycal, and near that, a four little conectors called JPW1, but my P.S doesn´t have that......so, is really necessary to plug a connector in that (I will need to buy another P.S) or is just for something else?

buy another PSU or you can also buy an adapter that
plugs into one of the standard molex connectors.

You can use the current ps w/o the extra plug (I don't know if your current ps is powerful enough for a barton though). What kind of ps you have?

Most motherboards with the 2nd 4-pin square molex connector will not even boot if it is not connected. they warn that you can harm the mobo by trying to power it up without that connection. Worse, it's highly likely that your new 2500+ system needs a bigger and better power supply than the low end one the P3-500Mhz system used.

If you get a 'certified for P4' Power Supply you will have all your Motherboard connectors.

Question: What did you do with your old board and what are you going to do with that power supply?

i have a 300w. PSU, so I think that with that Im ok...my question: s it necessary to plug a powerplug inthere, in order to run the PC. Just in case I have a K7N2 delta-L motherboard from MSI.

Friend, don't risk your new toys on it Get one of these or perhaps an Antec TruePower unit if you want SATA plugs for down the road.

Over at nforcershq.com, you'll find many K7N2 board users that intentionally leave the the extra 4-pin unplugged because they find it more stable that way (can't explain why). On the other hand, I have the same board & mine is connected and it's very stable as well. With Intel boards, that 4-pin connector is a necessity, but w/ your particular board, you'll be able to run it w/o plugging it in.

You can buy a converter that will plug into a standard hard drive power connector and convert it to the 4 pin square power connector.
